Built by South Carolina colonists in 1721, Fort King George was the southern most fortification defending the British empire in North America. Though it only lasted six short years until 1727, the fort served a monumental role toward the later establishment of Georgia.

Dungeness was built by Thomas Carnegie and his wife Lucy In 1884. The Carnegie Dungeness burned in the 1950's. Today, wild horses and other island wildlife roam freely throughout the ruins and along the beach.

The City of Darien was established in 1736 as a military outpost by the Scottish Highlanders making this historic town the second-oldest planned town in Georgia. There are numberous sites that may be viewed during a leisurely walk through the moss draped streets of Darien.

Formerly the home of Dr. Louis LeConte, this was one of Georgia's earliest rice plantations. Today LeConte's world-famous gardens are open.
